November 15, 2004 KINGSTON, Ont. -- Media are invited to interview Kingston resident and Canadian Forces Sports Hall of Fame member Maj. Tony O'Keeffe, Tues. 16 November, at 11:15 a.m. at the Kingston Military Community Centre as he does weight training in preparation for the Ultraman World Championships in Kona, Hawaii 26 - 28 Nov. The Ultraman is an invitation-only three-day, 320-mile (515 km) individual ultra-endurance event considered the toughest of its kind in the world. The competition includes a 10 km open-ocean swim, a 421 km bike, and an 84 km run. Maj. O'Keeffe placed second in the world in 2002 and 2003, and is in peak condition for this year's event. The 14-time Ironman Canada Triathlon finisher won the prestigious Esprit Ironman competition in Montreal in Sept. O'Keeffe, 42, has served 23 years in the Air Force both as an Airborne Electronic Sensor Operator and as an Aerospace Controller. He now works as a staff officer at the Canadian Defence Academy.
