OTTAWA – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will honour recipients of the Governor General's Performing Arts Awards during a special ceremony at Rideau Hall on Friday, November 5, 2004, at 6:00 p.m. The Governor General's Performing Arts Awards are presented annually to Canadian performers whose extraordinary lifetime achievements have contributed significantly to the enrichment of Canada's cultural life. Recipients are chosen from six categories, including theatre, dance, classical music and opera, popular music, film and broadcasting. 2004 Governor General's Performing Arts Award Recipients: Kate and Anna McGarrigle: visionary singers-songwriters, performers and recording artists Gordon Pinsent: actor, director, creative writer and producer Joseph Rouleau: opera singer Jean-Louis Roux: actor, director, writer and cultural groundbreaker Veronica Tennant: dancer Eric Till: film and television director, writer, and producer Ramon John Hnatyshyn Award for Voluntarism in the Performing Arts: Constance Pathy: philanthropist National Arts Centre Award: Rick Mercer: comedian On Saturday, November 6, at 8 p.m., the Governor General will attend a gala tribute performance at the National Arts Centre in Ottawa, where outstanding performers will celebrate the award recipients.
