Canada Border Services Agency terminates investigation into the dumping and subsidizing of outdoor barbeques

News Release

Ottawa, December 3, 2004... The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) today announced that it has terminated the investigation into the dumping and subsidizing of outdoor barbeques originating in or exported from the People's Republic of China (China). This decision follows the preliminary determination of dumping and subsidizing made on August 27, 2004. The conclusion of the dumping investigation revealed that the subject barbeques were dumped into Canada by a weighted average margin of dumping of 1.6%. This amount was considered to be insignificant under the Special Import Measures Act (SIMA) and as such, required that the investigation be terminated. The conclusion of the subsidy investigation revealed that the subject barbeques were subsidized by a margin of 1.4%. This amount was considered to be insignificant under SIMA and as such, required that the investigation be terminated. The termination of the investigation concluded all proceedings by the CBSA concerning this investigation. All provisional duties that have been collected will be returned to the importers in accordance with subsection 8(2) of SIMA. A copy of the Statement of Reasons, which provides more details about this decision, will be available, upon request, from the Anti-dumping and Countervailing Directorate and on the CBSA's Web site at: www.cbsa.gc.ca/sima within 15 days.
