For Immediate release Surrey, B.C., December 13, 2004 -- The Canada Border Services Agency and Public Works and Government Services Canada today announced that LEC Fortress Engineering Corporation of Vancouver, British Columbia, has been awarded a $2,938,000 competitive contract to build a temporary border facility at the Douglas (Peace Arch) Border Crossing. This temporary facility will house border operations during the construction of a permanent facility. The temporary facility is to be completed by August 2005. At that time, another competitive contract will be awarded for the construction of the permanent facility. As well, LEC Fortress Engineering Corporation has been awarded a separate $728,000 contract to build temporary facilities at the Pacific Highway Border crossing. These facilities will house staff who will temporarily relocate during the construction of the permanent facility at Douglas. These announcements were made today by the Honourable A. Anne McLellan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and by the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services. "These temporary facilities will ensure we continue to protect the safety and security of all Canadians as we facilitate the flow of legitimate goods and travelers into Canada," said Minister McLellan. "I want to congratulate LEC Fortress Engineering Corporation for its successful bid to construct these temporary facilities for the Canadian Border Services Agency," said Minister Brison. "The bidding process offers companies, large or small, from across Canada, the possibility to do business with the Government of Canada."
