January 25, 2005 OTTAWA — At the request of the Prime Minister, Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will represent Canada at the official ceremony commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp on Thursday, January 27, 2005. The ceremony will take place at 2:30 p.m. (local time) at the Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum in Oswiecim, Poland. Here is the Governor General's itinerary: Wednesday, January 26, 2005: 12:00 p.m. – Arrival in Cracow, Poland 6:30 p.m. – The Governor General will meet with Canadian participants at the Auschwitz ceremony. (Juliusz Slowacki Theatre) 12 p.m. – Lunch hosted by the President of Poland, Aleksander Kwasniewski 2:30 p.m. – Official ceremony commemorating the 60th Anniversary of the Liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau concentration camp (Auschwitz-Birkenau State Museum, Oswiecim) - Governor General Clarkson will represent Canada at the ceremony, where some 2,000 concentration camp survivors from around the world are expected to attend, as well as representatives from more than 40 countries.
