OPENING OF A PASSPORT OFFICE IN POINTE-CLAIRE, QUÉBEC

Gatineau, Quebec -- The Pointe-Claire area is getting a new Passport Office. The new office will be located in the Fairview Pointe-Claire Commercial Centre, at 6801, Trans-Canada Highway, and will open its doors to the public on January 31st, 2005. "Passport offices in the Metropolitan Montréal area issued close to 145,000 passports in fiscal year 2003-2004," said Chief Executive Officer Doreen Steidle. "Our forecasts show another 10 per cent increase for passport services during the 2004-2005 fiscal year. Opening a passport office in Pointe-Claire will help meet the needs of Canadians in this growing region." The Pointe-Claire passport office's hours of operation will be from 10:00 to18:00, Monday to Friday, and from 9:00 to 13:00 on Saturdays. All regular passport services will be available in the Pointe-Claire office, while urgent or express services and passport pickup will continue to be offered at the Saint-Laurent, Montreal and Laval passport offices. The Passport Office of Canada issued more than 2.5 million travel documents nationally in fiscal year 2003-2004, and expects to issue close to 3 million passports this fiscal year. There are now 33 passport offices across Canada. The Passport Office of Canada is a Special Operating Agency of Foreign Affairs Canada.
