SIGNING OF AGREEMENTS IN NEWFOUNDLAND AND LABRADOR

OTTAWA, January 14, 2004 -- Media representatives are invited to the signing of the Labrador Inuit Land Claims Agreement and the signing of agreements leading toward the creation of the Torngat Mountains National Park Reserve of Canada in Labrador The following officials will attend: President William Andersen III Labrador Inuit Association The Honourable Danny Williams Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, The Honourable Tom Osborne Minister of Environment and Conservation (Newfoundland and Labrador), The Honourable Tom Rideout Minister responsible for Aboriginal Affairs (Newfoundland and Labrador), Honourable Stéphane Dion Minister of the Environment (Canada), Honourable Andy Scott Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development (Canada). The ceremony will mark the signing of Atlantic Canada's first modern day treaty and the agreements leading toward the creation of the Torngat Mountains National Park Reserve of Canada. Following the ceremony, a media opportunity will take place on site. A community feast and entertainment will follow.
