February 15, 2005 OTTAWA -- In her Status Report tabled today in the House of Commons, the Auditor General of Canada, Sheila Fraser, concludes that the Canadian International Development Agency, Transport Canada, and the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission have made satisfactory progress in addressing recommendations made in previous reports. She also concludes that the government's efforts to modernize its management of human resources are on track. However, progress was unsatisfactory in the other four areas that were audited. The Auditor General states that Canadians need to see more progress in important areas such as the security of information technology, the improvement of financial information, the governance of Crown corporations, and the accountability of foundations. "I introduced this report in 2002 as a way to tell parliamentarians and Canadians what the government has done in response to recommendations made in our past audits," said Ms. Fraser. "We give credit where there has been improvement, and we call attention to areas where progress has not been satisfactory."
