Did you know... If you or your spouse or common law partner has made charitable donations, you may be able to claim a federal and provincial or territorial non-refundable tax credit when you file your return. You get a 16% federal tax credit on the first $200 of charitable donations, and you get a 29% federal credit for donations of more than $200 (provincial and territorial rates vary). If you are married or have a common law partner, you can pool your donations together. In addition, donations do not have to be claimed in the year they are made--they can be carried forward for up to five years. For more information on this, you can visit www.cra.gc.ca/tax.
