EASIER ACCESS TO DOING BUSINESS WITH GOVERNMENT OF CANADA

For immediate release GATINEAU, Quebec, March 31, 2005 -- Companies will now have easier access to doing business with the Government of Canada. That reminder came today from Public Works and Government Services Canada. As of April 1, 2005, there will no longer be suppliers' fees when using the Government Electronic Tendering Service (GETS). This service is provided through the MERXTM service at www.merx.com. "We are responding to the concerns of small and medium-sized businesses who want easier access to Government's electronic tending system," said the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services Canada. "As announced in the 2005 federal budget, the Government is committed to providing a fair, open and transparent procurement system for suppliers." In addition to the elimination of subscription fees for basic access to federal opportunities, as of June 18, 2005, GETS will enable the electronic distribution of construction drawings and specifications. Registered suppliers will be able to preview electronic versions of blueprints and specifications, and download them free of charge.
