Efford Appoints Wallace to Columbia River Board

OTTAWA - The Honourable R. John Efford, Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan), today announced the appointment of Thomas W. Wallace to the Columbia River Treaty Permanent Engineering Board. "Mr. Wallace has made significant contributions to the Government of Canada throughout his career," said Minister Efford. "I am confident that his expertise in energy policy and international matters will be valuable to the Board." Mr. Wallace has been Director General of the Electricity Resources Branch at NRCan since September 2003. Prior to this position, he was Associate Vice-President and Director General (Policy Analysis and Development) with the Canadian International Development Agency. Between 1985 and 2000, he held executive-level positions at Industry Canada, the Privy Council Office and the former Department of Energy, Mines and Resources. Mr. Wallace holds an honours bachelor's degree from Queen's University and a master's degree in Economics from the University of British Columbia. The Permanent Engineering Board was established under the Columbia River Treaty, which deals with hydroelectric development on the Columbia River in Canada and the United States. The Board, which has two members from each country, is responsible for reviewing development plans and operation by both countries, and reporting on whether the intent of the Treaty is being met.
