FIRE AT WINNIPEG MINT CONTAINED - PRODUCTION NOT IMPACTED

March 17, 2005 WINNIPEG --A fire at the Royal Canadian Mint facility in Winnipeg began at 7:30 p.m. on March 16. All employees were safely evacuated from the building and there were no injuries. The fire began in a section of one of the Mint's plating production line, where plated blanks are manufactured. That particular production line has been shut down as the Mint continues to work with the Winnipeg Fire Department to assess the cause of the fire. The Winnipeg Fire Department confirmed the facility's air quality at approximately 10:00 p.m., at which point employees re-entered the building. The Mint contracted an environmental company to provide clean up services.
