REGINA, March 18, 2005 -- The Globe Theatre Society will receive $550,000 from Government of Canada announced Ralph Goodale Minister of Finance, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla. The funds will enable the organization to expand and renovate its existing facilities in the Prince Edward Building. "For nearly 40 years, the Globe Theatre has offered Saskatchewan's residents the opportunity to discover plays by the greatest playwrights from Canada and abroad," said Minister Goodale. "This project will enable this major institution to continue playing a lead role on the province's cultural scene.""Our government is committed to helping cultural institutions offer Canadians modern facilities, and I am delighted to support the Globe Theatre project, which demonstrates this commitment," said Minister Frulla. "Thanks to the renovations, the province's creative people will have a place to refine their artistic skills, while spectators will have a chance to enjoy an outstanding cultural presentation facility."The work being undertaken by the Globe Theatre Society includes construction of new rehearsal studios, expansion of performance space, renovation of the Templeton Studio, installation of wheelchair-accessible doors and elevators, and expansion of administrative and box office space. Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Cultural Spaces Canada program. The program supports cultural infrastructure projects to improve access for Canadians to performing arts, visual arts, media arts and exhibits, or that improve physical conditions for artistic creativity and innovation.
