GOVERNMENT OF CANADA SUPPORTS BROADCASTING DECISION CRTC 2004-538

OTTAWA, March 2, 2005 -- After careful review of the petition received by the Governor in Council, the Government of Canada announced today its decision (P.C. 2005-228) not to set aside or refer back Broadcasting Decision 2004-538 of the Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission (CRTC).This decision concerns the renewal and amendment of a licence for CFTF-TV Rivière-du-Loup, a local station affiliate of the TQS network, serving the regions of Lower Saint Lawrence, Gaspe and northern New Brunswick.The decision, reached in December 2004, was found to be consistent with the policy objectives of subsection 3(1) of the Broadcasting Act.Information:Myriam BrochuChief, Media RelationsCanadian Heritage(819) 997-9314
