GOVERNMENT OF CANADA SUPPORTS SASKATCHEWAN PUBLISHERS

SASKATOON, March 31, 2005 -- Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament (Wascana) Ralph Goodale, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $248,846 in funding for five Saskatchewan publishing firms. The funds will help the publishers expand their promotional activities, continue their search for new business opportunities and ensure their financial viability. "I want to congratulate these publishers for contributing to the vitality of Saskatchewan's publishing industry," said Minister Goodale. "I encourage them in their continuing efforts to offer a wide selection of books by Canadian writers to readers here and abroad.""This year marks the 25th anniversary of federal support for Canada's publishing industry," said Minister Frulla. "We can all be proud of this commitment by our Government to those who bring our literature to life."The publishers to benefit from today's funding announcement are: Canadian Plains Research Center $37,106 Coteau Books $85,189 Rainbow Horizons Publishing Inc. $64,354 Saskatchewan Publishers Group $27,062 Thistledown Press Limited $35,135 Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through three components of its Book Publishing Industry Development Program: Aid to Publishers, Aid to Industry and Associations and the Supply Chain Initiative.
