OFFICER CHARGED IN CHILD-PORNOGRAPHY CASE

OTTAWA, March 24, 2005 -- An Ottawa-based military officer has been charged for possession of child pornography after an investigation by the Canadian Forces National Investigation Service (NIS). Capt. Marc-Antoine Saint-Jacques is charged under section 130 of the National Defence Act, with possession of child pornography, contrary to Section 163.1 (4) of the Criminal Code of Canada. The investigation was initiated by the NIS, working closely with Department of National Defence computer analysts, after discovering evidence that a large number of child-pornography images were held on a military laptop and personal computer allegedly in the possession of the accused. "The possession of child pornography is illegal and completely unacceptable," said CF Provost Marshal, Col. Dorothy Cooper. "These charges are a direct result of the investigative efforts of the NIS to prevent and deter this criminal behavior within the military community."
