Burncoat Head, Nova Scotia - A park adjacent to the world's highest tides will receive a major upgrade, thanks to an investment by the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency. Improvements to the Burncoat Head Park amounting to $67,397 were announced today by Public Works and Government Services Minister Scott Brison, on behalf of ACOA Minister, the Honourable Joseph McGuire. "The aim of our investment is to further develop and enhance this park to attract additional visitors, "said Mr. Brison. "This investment is yet another example of the Government of Canada's commitment to regional and sectoral development, including tourism." Burncoat Head Park is located on the Bay of Fundy, just off Highway 215 in Hants County, Nova Scotia. The site is directly adjacent to where some of the world's highest tides were recorded. The park features a full-scale replica of the Burncoat Lighthouse. The original lighthouse, built in 1913, was demolished in 1972. The new ACOA investment involves further site development, including the widening of the access road, expanding the parking lot to accommodate tour buses and recreational vehicles, and the replacement of the park's picnic tables. Additionally, the investment will improve the quality of exhibits and allow the park to undertake additional marketing activities. "Our association is committed to the development and improvement of the park while maintaining the site's natural beauty, "said Burncoat Head Park Association Chair, Charlie McCulloch. "With ACOA's help, we believe that the park has the potential to be a significant tourist attraction." ACOA's investment in this project is being made through the Agency's Strategic Community Investment Fund (SCIF). SCIF, launched in 2000, is providing $135 million over five years to help communities in Atlantic Canada to create an environment that encourages and enhances the development of strategic sectors and the adoption of new technology and innovative practices. SCIF is a component of the Atlantic Investment Partnership, a five-year Government of Canada initiative designed to help Atlantic Canadians compete in the global, knowledge-based economy.
