Governments of Canada and Nova Scotia Support Modernization of Two Science Laboratories at Uiversité Sainte-Anne

CHURCH POINT, April 28, 2005 -- Member of Parliament (West Nova) Robert Thibault, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla and Nova Scotia's Minister of Education Jamie Muir, today announced that $500,000 in joint funding has allowed the Université Sainte-Anne to renovate and modernize two science laboratories."Université Sainte-Anne is a leader in interactive and distance education, and it takes full advantage of the latest technology," said Mr. Thibault. "These improvements will increase the quality of training for young people who want to pursue healthcare studies in French.""The Canadian and Nova Scotian governments have worked together to give professors the tools they need to provide high-quality education," said Minister Frulla. "This support clearly shows the Government of Canada's commitment to increasing access to post-secondary studies in French for official-language communities in a minority situation."This funding allowed Université Sainte-Anne to renovate and modernize a biology lab and a chemistry lab. The project included construction work and the purchase of new furniture and modern equipment."Université Sainte-Anne is continually innovating and modernizing," said Nova Scotia Education Minister Jamie Muir. "We're very pleased to be a part of it and we're proud of the contribution the university makes to the lives of Acadian, francophone and anglophone Nova Scotians."This project was made possible through a subsidiary agreement of the Canada-Nova Scotia Agreement on Minority-Language Education and Second-Language Instruction.
