April 13, 2005 OTTAWA – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will participate in the first CanWest CanSpell Spelling Bee events to take place in Ottawa on April 15 and 16, 2005. Twenty-two regional spelling bee finalists aged 10 to 15 from across Canada are gathering in the National Capital to compete for the CanSpell Cup and a chance to win a $10,000 education fund scholarship. As patron of the CanSpell Spelling Bee, the Governor General will host a reception at Rideau Hall for the finalists on Friday, April 15, 2005, at 3:00 p.m. Media representatives interested in the official photo opportunity are asked to call the Rideau Hall Press Office. On Saturday, April 16, 2005, at 7:00 p.m. at the National Arts Centre Theatre in Ottawa, the Governor General will deliver brief remarks at the beginning of the competition and join the judges' panel as honorary judge for the evening.
