Honourable Judge David M. Arnot Reappointed Treaty Commissioner in the Province of Saskatchewan

SASKATCHEWAN (April 20, 2005) -- The Government of Canada is proud to announce the reappointment of the Honourable Judge David M. Arnot as Treaty Commissioner for the province of Saskatchewan effective April 1, 2005 and running to March 31, 2007. "I congratulate Mr. Arnot on his reappointment as Treaty Commissioner," said The Honourable Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians. "This reappointment demonstrates that Mr. Arnot is a natural leader and is successful at facilitating treaty discussions between the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations (FSIN) and the Government of Canada". As Treaty Commissioner, Judge David M. Arnot also plays an integral role in raising awareness about First Nations issues and treaties through an extensive public education program conducted by his office throughout the province. Judge Arnot was reappointed Treaty Commissioner by an Order of the Governor in Council signed by the Governor General of Canada. David Arnot attended the University of Saskatchewan and received his LL.B. Degree in 1975. Between 1976 and 1978, he practiced law as a Crown Prosecutor. In 1978, he was appointed Senior Crown Prosecutor for the Battlefords Judicial Centre. He was appointed a Judge of the Provincial Court of Saskatchewan in 1981, sitting at North Battleford, Saskatchewan.
