Public Notice: Ottawa River Pathway Behind Supreme Court of Canada Will Soon Reopen

News Release

Tuesday, April 26, 2005 For immediate release GATINEAU, QUEBEC -- Public Works and Government Services Canada (PWGSC), in collaboration with the National Capital Commission (NCC), will soon reopen the section of the Ottawa River Pathway behind the Supreme Court of Canada. This section of the pathway has been closed since last year due to rocks that had fallen from the escarpment above. Since then, investigations have been carried out and loose material and rocks were removed. Although repairs are required to an area of the escarpment in the fall of 2005, PWGSC will install temporary cement structures to provide access to the pathway throughout the summer months. These temporary structures will be installed in early May and will remain in place until repair work is completed and the monitoring results indicate it is safe to remove. The exact date of the pathway reopening will be announced shortly. - 30 - For further information please contact: Pierre Téotonio Media Relations Public Works and Government Services Canada (819) 956-2310
