OTTAWA, April 8, 2005 -- The Royal Canadian Mint facilities in Ottawa and Winnipeg will be offering a coin exchange for the new Terry Fox Commemorative Circulation Dollar on Tuesday, April 12, 2005. The exchanges will be open to the public. Canadians are invited to exchange a standard one dollar coin (the common loon design) for a new Terry Fox design, and are also encouraged to donate an additional dollar to the Terry Fox Foundation. Coin exchanges will be limited to 5 coins per person in order to ensure that as many individuals as possible have access to the coin. "Terry asked for one dollar from every Canadian in 1980, fittingly his image now graces this commemorative one-dollar circulation coin," said Darrell Fox, Terry's brother and National Director of the Terry Fox Foundation. "We are hopeful 30 million Canadians will pay tribute to Terry in this anniversary year by raising the equivalent of one "Terry" dollar from each and every citizen."
