ALLERGY ALERT - Undeclared sulphites in CROWN FARMS FRESH FROZEN HYACINTH BEAN

OTTAWA, May 16, 2005 -- The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is warning people with sensitivities to sulphites not to consume Crown Farms Fresh Frozen Hyacinth Bean. The affected product may contain sulphites which are not declared on the label. This alert is of concern to those individuals who have sensitivities to sulphites. The affected product, Crown Farms Fresh Frozen Hyacinth Bean, manufactured in Bangladesh, is sold in a 454g/1 lb package bearing UPC 8 941100 170328 and a Best Before Date 03 MAR 2006. The affected product was sold from one store only, Marhaba Supermarket, 3018 Danforth Ave., Toronto, Ontario. The importer is voluntarily recalling the affected product from the marketplace Consumption of this product may cause a serious or life-threatening reaction in persons with sensitivities to sulphites. There have been no reported illnesses associated with the consumption of this product. The CFIA is continuing the food safety investigation.
