ml> Ottawa, Ontario, May 27, 2005 – The Minister of State (Infrastructure and Communities), the Honourable John Godfrey, is pleased to announce the appointment of Tony Genco as President and Chief Executive Officer of Parc Downsview Park Inc. “I’m pleased with the appointment of Mr. Genco, since he has a great deal of experience with Parc Downsview Park,” said Minister Godfrey. “Mr. Genco has been with the Crown corporation since it was first created six years ago and acted as President and CEO for one year. He has been instrumental to the development of the vision for the park and I have no doubt that under his leadership, this vision will be achieved.” As part of the Government’s policy of providing a greater role for Parliamentarians in reviewing appointments, Mr. Genco’s nomination was referred to the Standing Committee on the Environment and Sustainable Development. Created in 1999, Parc Downsview Park Inc. is the Crown Corporation responsible for the development and management of the Downsview lands in Toronto. Its vision is to create Canada’s first national urban park, building on the four pillars of sustainability: economic, environmental, social and cultural. Over the years, Downsview Park has been host to several major events, such as World Youth Day in 2002, and the Molson Canadian Rrocks for Toronto SARS Benefit Concert in 2003.
