The Death of an RCMP Officer - Statement by the Deputy Prime Minister

News Release

OTTAWA, June 6, 2005 -- “Sadly, we learned this past weekend that a member of our national police force died while on duty during a marine patrol on Okanagan Lake. “Constable Jean Minguy, a native of Sainte Foy, Québec, served in the Royal Canadian Mounted Police for over 20 years, the last eight in Vernon, B.C. “I know this must be especially difficult for officers in “E” Division and the Vernon detachment, who last year mourned the loss of another colleague, Auxiliary Constable Glen Evely. “During this time of loss, we are reminded of their dedication and the contributions these officers make working from coast to coast to coast, to keep Canadians safe. Cst. Minguy’s service to his community and his country will not be forgotten. “Our thoughts are with Constable Minguy's family at this time.” - 30 - For further information: Alex Swann Office of the Honourable Anne McLellan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness (613) 991-2863
