The Government of Canada Supports Canadian Parents for French Manitoba

WINNIPEG, June 13, 2005 -- Member of Parliament (Saint Boniface) Raymond Simard, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $284,000 in funding for Canadian Parents for French (CPF) Manitoba for the 2005 2006 and 2006 2007 fiscal years. The funding will enable the organization to promote opportunities for young people to learn French as a second language and to raise awareness of the advantages of knowing Canada's two official languages."Canadian Parents for French plays an important role in Manitoba by making young Anglophones and their families aware of the possibilities and advantages of studying French," said Mr. Simard. "I am proud that the Government of Canada helps this organization to broaden the horizons of young Manitobans and to strengthen bilingualism in our province.""Our linguistic duality is at the heart of our identity and represents a tremendous asset for our young people and our country in an age in which cultural exchanges multiply and borders are disappearing," said Minister Frulla. "We must support the effort of organizations like Canadian Parents for French who work diligently to ensure that all regions of Canada derive pride and strength from our two official languages."Funding will enable CPF Manitoba to continue to promote French-as-a-second-language programs available in urban and rural area of Manitoba among young people and parents. Activities in French, such as cultural visits, theatre and improvisation workshops, and contests, will also be organized for students of all ages.Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through its Enhancement of Official Languages Program.
