OTTAWA – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, and His Excellency John
Ralston Saul will take part in Canada Day celebrations in Ottawa on Friday, July 1, 2005.
At 9:30 a.m., the Governor General will celebrate Canadian citizenship when she swears in 47 new Canadians—29 adults
and 18 children—during a public citizenship ceremony to be held at the Senate of Canada, on Parliament Hill in Ottawa.
Note: Media representatives wishing to attend must be accredited to have access to the Senate on Parliament Hill on July
1.

The new Canadians originate from 18 countries: China, Colombia, France, the Federal Republic of Germany, India, the Republic
of Korea, Mexico, the Philippines, Nigeria, Russia, Serbia and Montenegro, Sri Lanka, Sudan, Trinidad and Tobago, Turkey,
the United States, Ukraine and the United Kingdom. They will be among the approximately 1,500 new Canadians to take and
sign the Oath of Citizenship at ceremonies being held across the country on Canada Day.
At noon, the Governor General will join the Prime Minister, the minister of Canadian Heritage and thousands of Canadians
on Parliament Hill as some of our finest artists from across the country perform on centre stage. This year, the Canada
Day noon-time show will pay homage to the Year of the Veteran and the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War,
and will salute the centennial anniversaries of Alberta and Saskatchewan joining Confederation. The show will be broadcast
live across the country, on CBC and Radio-Canada, beginning at 12 noon (EST).
