Karen Kain appointed Artistic Director of National Ballet

Karen Kain, Chair of the Canada Council since September 2004, has been appointed Artistic Director of the National Ballet of Canada, effective July 1. She will continue serving as Chair of the Canada Council.
"I have been given the honour and responsibility to serve two of Canada's most important arts and cultural institutions, and I intend to fulfill my commitments to each," she said. "These are exciting times for both organizations and I am proud to be able to play a key role in both of them."
The 11 members of the Canada Council Board serve on a part-time basis. Previous Chairs have included actor Jean-Louis Roux, contralto Maureen Forrester and theatre director/producer/playwright Mavor Moore.
