OTTAWA – Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, Governor General of Canada, will officially present
a new Canada Post commemorative envelope honouring the War Brides and their contributions to Canadian society. The ceremony
will take place at Rideau Hall on Thursday, June 30, 2005 at 4:30 p.m., a few minutes prior to the official start of the
Party in the Garden.
This Canada Post commemorative envelope honours the thousands of young women who married Canadian servicemen and travelled
to a new life in Canada. The envelope depicts the joyous but often hurried wedding celebrations and the bonds of friendship
and support forged by the women on their journey to Canada. It bears the stamp of Her Majesty The Queen, from a photograph
taken by Canadian artist Bryan Adams.
An exhibit of War Bride memorabilia will also be on display in the Ambassador's room.
