WAINWRIGHT, AB - AMAN Building Corporation, of Sherwood Park, AB, has been awarded a $14.3 million contract to provide a single quarters accommodation facility at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Wainwright. The firm has also been awarded a contract valued at approximately $300,000 to develop a design for married quarters on the base.
With the recent growth of CFB Wainwright, including the advent of the Canadian Manoeuvre Training Centre and the establishment of Area Support Unit Wainwright, and future expansion of its training role, the base and surrounding community will see an influx of soldiers and their families over the next couple of years.
The single quarters facility contract includes the construction of two 97-person barracks blocks to house officers and senior non-commissioned members. The housing contract is for designing a development of up to 60 single-family homes, including associated roads, services and utilities.
"As part of the Government's commitment to increase the size of the Canadian Forces, we are augmenting the infrastructure required to support the men and women who serve our country," said Defence Minister Bill Graham. "The creation of these new quarters demonstrates that we are continuing to invest in our people."
"These new facilities will ensure that the spaces provided for our soldiers to live in are on par with the modern facilities they train in," said General Rick Hillier, the Chief of the Defence Staff. "As training facilities for our members evolve, so have the quarters we provide for them."
The barracks facility, a design already owned by the Department of National Defence, has been adapted for the CFB Wainwright site and updated to incorporate improved accessibility, environmental and quality of life aspects.
Both contracts were awarded following a competitive bidding process.
