Roman Catholic Mass of Thanksgiving and Celebration to Mark Year of the Veteran

OTTAWA, June 2, 2005 -- A Roman Catholic Mass will be celebrated at 11 a.m., Sunday June 5, 2005 at St. Joseph's Oratory, 3800 Queen Mary Rd., Montreal, to mark The Year of the Veteran and Canadian Forces Day. His Excellency, Monsignor Donald Thériault, Roman Catholic Bishop of the Canadian Forces, will preside. The Year of the Veteran is a year-long expression of Canada's appreciation of our veterans and commemorates the 60th anniversary of the end of the Second World War. The Mass will remember those who gave their lives, honour our Veterans - those who have gone before and those who are still with us - and recognize the contribution of the men and women of the Canadian Forces. The event also marks the 100th anniversary of St. Joseph's Oratory. Although the event will follow the Roman Catholic tradition of a Eucharist celebration, people of all faiths are welcome to attend and give thanks and praise. Veterans, Canadian Forces personnel and all members of the public are invited to participate.
