Transport Minister announces appointments to VIA Rail

OTTAWA — Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced the appointments of Mr. Charles Frederick Mitchell Ross and Mr. Louis J. Tremblay, both of Ontario, to the board of directors of VIA Rail Canada Inc.
"Mr. Ross’ extensive knowledge in business and law and Mr. Tremblay’s technical and business backgrounds will be assets to VIA Rail," said Mr. Lapierre. "Their combined experience will serve them well as they take on new duties."
Mr. Ross graduated from the University of Western Ontario’s Richard Ivey School of Business in honours business administration. He went on to complete his bachelor of laws and was called to the Ontario Bar by the Law Society of Upper Canada in 1966. Mr. Ross has held many positions with the City of London including Controller, Deputy Mayor, and Commissioner of the Public Utilities Commission. From 1995 to 2001, he served on the board of directors of the Royal Canadian Mint. He is currently a senior associate at the law firm McKenzie Lake.
Mr. Tremblay received his engineering degree from the Royal Military College in Kingston, Ontario, in 1960 and went on to receive his Masters in Business Administration from Queen’s University in 1965. He has held many positions including production manager for Ontario Steel Products Limited and principal at the Cornwall Campus of St. Lawrence College. He is currently president of
L.J. Tremblay & Associates Limited, a firm of mechanical and electrical consulting engineers. He is also director of Cordel Developments Corporation Limited and director of Capital Cornwall Developments Inc.
VIA Rail Canada Inc., a Crown corporation created in 1977, operates Canada’s national passenger rail service. The board of directors is responsible for the management of the business activities and other affairs of the corporation.
