Chelsea, Quebec, July 6, 2005 - Speaking on behalf of the
Honourable Jacques Saada, Minister of
Canada Economic Development and Minister responsible for the
Francophonie, David Smith, Member of Parliament for Pontiac, today
announced contributions of $137,184 to Le Nordik Scandinavian Spa
for its startup operations.
Canada Economic Development's funding went towards a feasibility
study, the purchase of equipment and construction of the site. Construction
called for $3.6 million in private and public investments and the creation
of about 10 jobs.
Located in the heart of nature, on the edge of Gatineau Park,
Le Nordik Scandinavian Spa is a relaxation centre that highlights
Scandinavian relaxation techniques, including outdoor Scandinavian hot tubs. The
basic principle is to alternate hot, cold and relaxation.
"Promoting the Ottawa-Outaouais as a tourist destination is one
of the priorities of Canada Economic Development business office in
the region. In addition to creating about 10 jobs, this enterprise enhances
the National Capital Region's tourism offering," stated Minister Saada.
Canada Economic Development's mandate is to promote the economic
development of the regions of Quebec. Primarily through financial assistance
programs, the Agency elicits and supports the implementation of economic
development projects. The two priorities the Agency has set itself are to foster
innovation and the knowledge economy in each region of Quebec, and to help
communities that are having difficulty adjusting to the new economy. In this
way, the Agency contributes to the attainment of the Government of Canada's
objective of building the 21st Century economy.
