Government of Canada Matches Fundraising Revenues of the Victoria Symphony Society

VICTORIA, July 18, 2005 -- Member of Parliament (Victoria) David Anderson, on behalf of Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla, today announced $256,850 in funding for the Victoria Symphony Society. These funds will match the revenues that the Society collected during its fundraising campaign in the private sector and deposited into its foundation."Arts organizations contribute to the vitality of our communities," said Mr. Anderson. "Today, we are providing concrete support to a major cultural organization by matching the contributions collected from businesses and Canadians who believe in the importance of its role in the Victoria area. The Government of Canada is proud to be working with them." "Through the partnerships established with organizations such as the Victoria Symphony Society, our government is giving artists the tools they need to be innovative and share their creations with the public," said Ms. Frulla. Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Endowment Incentives component of its Canadian Arts and Heritage Sustainability Program, which provides matching funds for donations.
