Gatineau, Quebec, July 14, 2005 - Speaking on behalf of the
Honourable Jacques Saada, Minister of Canada Economic Development and
Minister responsible for the Francophonie, Mr. Marcel Proulx, Member
of Parliament for Hull-Aylmer riding, today announced a non-repayable
contribution of $80,985 to Les grands feux du Lac Leamy for the
organization and promotion of the first MotoFest Canada, to be held in Gatineau
on July 29 and 30, 2005.
This first mototourism gathering in the Outaouais will offer enthusiasts a
series of packages to enjoy their favourite sport and discover the region's many
attractions. The proposed schedule will take participants to the site of the
organization Les grands feux du Lac Leamy, the city of Maniwaki and the
two regional county municipalities, MRC Papineau and MRC Les
Collines-de-l'Outaouais.
By organizing this event, the proponents seek to position the Outaouais as a
prime mototourism destination. In support of this goal, Outaouais Tourism
recently published a mototourism map which highlights the various motorcycle
circuits in the region.
"The MotoFest will reinforce the Outaouais's tourism offering and attract a
new clientele eager to discover new scenery and new sources of pleasure and
entertainment. Mototourism has great potential in terms of economic spinoffs and
Canada Economic Development is pleased to support its development in the
Outaouais," stated Mr. Saada.
Canada Economic Development's mandate is to promote the economic development
of the regions of Quebec. Primarily through financial assistance programs, the
Agency elicits and supports the implementation of economic development projects.
The two priorities the Agency has set itself are to foster innovation and the
knowledge economy in each region of Quebec, and to help communities that are
having difficulty adjusting to the new economy. In this way, the Agency
contributes to the attainment of the Government of Canada's objective of
building the 21st Century economy.
