ACOA Continues to Support the Work of West Prince Ventures Ltd.

With the renewal of core operating funds from the Atlantic
Canada Opportunities Agency (ACOA), West Prince Ventures
Ltd. will continue to provide small businesses in Western
PEI with access to capital. The group has been involved in
providing such assistance for more than two decades. West Prince Ventures assists with the start-up, growth and
development of West Prince businesses. Having this support
in rural areas encourages entrepreneurial-minded members of
the community to create their own economic success, said
the Honourable Joe McGuire, Minister of the Atlantic Canada
Opportunities Agency. Community development organizations
are vitally important in the economic development of rural
Atlantic Canada. The renewal of the core operating funds
for West Prince Ventures supports this strategy. Established in 1981, West Prince Ventures Ltd. is a
recognized Community Business Development Corporation
(CBDC). To encourage business growth in their respective
areas, CBDCs have been mandated to provide loans, equity
financing and business counseling to small businesses.With the financial support we receive from ACOA, we are
able to provide community-based access to capital. This is
something that is not typically available from traditional
funding sources, said Charlie Sark, Chair of West Prince
Ventures Ltd. I am pleased to be a part of a group that
works to provide hard-working people in the community with
an opportunity to establish and advance their own business,
increase their earned income and become economically self-
sufficient.West Prince Ventures Ltd. is one of 41 CBDCs in Atlantic
Canada that will benefit from $8.4 million designated to
the Community Futures Program, under the recently announced
$708 million-Atlantic Investment Partnership. The
Community Futures Program is a nation-wide initiative and
is managed in Atlantic Canada by ACOA.
