Ottawa, August 2, 2005 -- Six RCMP foals now have
names, thanks to the creativity of five Canadian youth and one from the
United States.
The foals were named during the annual RCMP Name the Foal contest, which
was launched this spring. The contest asks youngsters from Canada and
around the world to find original names for six of the foals born each
year at the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ont. These foals may one day
be part of the world-famous RCMP Musical Ride. This year, names had to
start with the letter “C”.
Over 11,000 entries were received during the two months that the contest
ran. The following winners were selected through a draw:
Chance - Sydney Crawley, Nepean, ON
Comet - Dawnn McDowell, Kyle, SK
Chief - David Murray, Fredericton, NB
Canuck - Josh Sebek, Ennismore, ON
Champ - Paytyn Harvey, Kelowna, BC
Calais - Catherine Anne Tindell, Barberton, Ohio, USA
