The Canadian Forces bids farewell to the Governor General and Commander-Chief of Canada

OTTAWA - A ceremony to honour Her Excellency the Right Honourable Adrienne Clarkson, is planned for Wednesday 21 Sep. at 10:15 a.m. on Parliament Hill.
The parade will allow members of the Canadian Forces to bid their Commander-in-Chief farewell, as well as an occasion for Her Excellency to recognize the contributions of the men and women in uniform.
The Minister of National Defence, the honourable Bill Graham and the Chief of the Defence Staff, General Rick Hillier, will use the opportunity to thank Her Excellency for her support over the past 6 years.
"Her Excellency reminded Canadians that our history is inextricably linked to the contribution and sacrifices made by our men and women in the military," said Minister Graham. "She helped remind Canadians that our military is a vital national institution that we can take pride in."
Since her installation on October 7, 1999, Her Excellency has visited Canadian Forces members at home and abroad, and has used her office to highlight the contributions of the men and women of the military.
"This farewell event is reflective of the very unique relationship that Her Excellency has maintained with Canadian Forces members during her term," said General Hillier.
