MONTRÉAL, September 29, 2005 -- Minister of Canadian Heritage and Minister responsible for Status of Women Liza Frulla today announced $320,500 in funding for Héritage Montréal, a non-profit organization dedicated to the preservation of Montreal's architectural landscape and social heritage. The funds will enable the organization to create an online virtual walk' through such renowned Montréal neighbourhoods as Little Italy, the Golden Square Mile, Parc La Fontaine, and Mount Royal. "The Government of Canada supports the development of a strong Canadian cultural presence in cyberspace," said Minister Frulla. "We are proud to help Héritage Montréal bring the captivating history and cultural diversity of one of Canada's most beautiful cities to life online, where it will be accessible to Internet users across Canada and around the world."Héritage Montréal is an independent, non-profit, private organization dedicated to the preservation of Montreal's urban, architectural, and social heritage. It is an active defender of heritage buildings, neighbourhoods, landscapes, and green spaces throughout the city and offers public education activities such as renovation courses, architectural walking tours, public lectures, and symposiums.Financial assistance is provided by the Department of Canadian Heritage through the Partnerships Fund component of its Canadian Culture Online initiative. The Fund makes Canadian cultural collections held by provincial, municipal, and local cultural organizations available on the Internet in both official languages.Funding announced today was provided for in the February 2005 federal budget.
