The 2004-05 Annual Financial Report of the Government of Canada
(AFR) will be released today, Wednesday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. The
report summarizes the Government's financial results for the fiscal year
ending March 31, 2005, including the budgetary balance. It also reviews
the Government's spending and revenue performance over the past fiscal
year, and discusses the factors affecting these results.
Department of Finance officials will provide a technical background
briefing on the report in advance of its release on an embargoed
basis.
The briefing will be held today, Wednesday, September 21
at 1:30 p.m. in Room 22B at the Department of Finance,
140 O'Connor St., Ottawa. Once the briefing has commenced, no one will
be allowed to leave the room or contact their offices until the 2:00 p.m.
release.
The briefing is for background information only, not for
attribution. Journalists will be required to sign
an undertaking to respect the terms of the
embargo.
No stills or cameras will be allowed in the briefing. It is for
journalists only. Proper identification will be required.
