CARAQUET, New Brunswick, October 28, 2005 – A $595,196 competitive contract has been awarded to Comeau & Savoie Construction Ltd, of Caraquet, New Brunswick, to repair Fishermen’s wharf, including removal and installation of concrete slabs in North Head, Grand Manan, New Brunswick. Awarded on behalf of the Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, this contract will be completed in February 2006.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Andy Scott, Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
“Congratulations to Comeau & Savoie Construction Ltd., a small-town company, for bidding on and winning this competitive tender,” said Minister Scott. “This contract demonstrates that it’s possible for all companies to win a federal contract, no matter their size or location. It shows that the Government of Canada is committed to transparency for Canadians all over the country.”
Work under this contract will involve the installation of concrete, steel sheet piling, rock ballast and rock fill. The company will have to remove and reinstall concrete slabs.
The Small Craft Harbours (SCH) program works in partnership with local harbour authorities in five regions across the country to provide commercial fishers and boaters with safe and accessible facilities. The SCH program ensures that nearly 1,300 harbours and 6,000 structures, critical to the economic and social life of small maritime communities, remain safe and in good repair.
