GASCONS, October 18, 2005 – A $676,144 competitive redevelopment contract has been awarded to Construction Jean & Robert Ltée of Gascons, Quebec, to move the Gascons harbour breakwater at the Ruisseau Chapados. This contract, awarded on behalf of Fisheries and Oceans Canada, will be completed in January 2006.
The announcement was made today by the Honourable Jean Lapierre, Minister of Transport, on behalf of the Honourable Scott Brison, Minister of Public Works and Government Services.
“Congratulations to Construction Jean & Robert Ltée on winning this contract. This shows that the Government of Canada’s contract program is competitive, transparent and accessible to all Canadian businesses regardless of their size or location,” said Minister Lapierre.
The work consists mainly in moving the breakwater located at the mouth of Gascons harbour. Construction Jean & Robert Ltée must demolish part of the existing breakwater, dredge the channel in the rock to the prescribed level and build a new structure.
The Gascons harbour is located in the Gaspé tourist region and is a historically significant fishing site.
