OTTAWA, ONTARIO - Belinda Stronach, Minister of Human Resources and Skills Development and Minister responsible for Democratic Renewal, today announced the appointment of Patricia Blackstaffe to the Canada Employment Insurance Commission as the Commissioner for Workers.
"I am very pleased that Ms. Blackstaffe has accepted this appointment," said Minister Stronach. "Her extensive knowledge and experience in the field of labour relations will be a source of important policy advice in addressing the changing needs of Canada's labour market. I would also like to take this opportunity to thank Anthony Wohlfarth. His flexibility, leadership and judgement have been invaluable assets to the Commission."
Since 2000, Ms. Blackstaffe has served as Executive Assistant to the President of the Canadian Labour Congress, working closely with senior management, providing strategic advice, and helping to develop and implement various policies and programs. From 1991 to 2000, Ms. Blackstaffe was the Assistant to the President of the Communications, Energy and Paperworkers Union of Canada, and from 1980 to 1991, she was the Director of Research for the Communications Workers of Canada.
