OTTAWA, October 13, 2005 - The joint review panel for the Kemess North Copper-Gold Mine Project today announced the beginning of the comment period on the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) filed by the proponent, Northgate Minerals Corporation. This comment period gives interested parties an opportunity to comment on whether the EIA adequately addresses the requirements of the final EIA Guidelines issued by the panel on August 29, 2005.
Written comments received by January 6, 2006 will be considered. Interested parties are invited to forward comments by mail, fax or e-mail to one of the following:

Northgate Minerals Corporation proposes to develop the Kemess North copper and gold deposit, 250 kilometres northeast of Smithers, B.C. The project is located 6 kilometres north of its existing Kemess Mine. The project includes development of a new open pit, modification of the existing mill, and related infrastructure.
