Women entrepreneurs are kicking-off Small Business Week
with a speed networking event and information sessions
designed to help them enhance their businesses. The
event, "From Money to Marketing," is being organized by the
Newfoundland and Labrador Organization of Women
Entrepreneurs (NLOWE) and the Atlantic Canada Opportunities
Agency (ACOA), and is taking place from 8:30 a.m. to 12:00
p.m. on October 17th at the Delta Hotel in St. John's."ACOA is pleased to partner with NLOWE to offer women
entrepreneurs tools to help them grow their businesses
through programs such as the Women in Business Initiative,"
said the Honourable R. John Efford, Regional Minister for
Newfoundland and Labrador, on behalf of the Honourable
Joseph McGuire, Minister of ACOA. "In the last decade,
women entrepreneurs have been responsible for 66 per cent
of the growth in self-employment. Small Business Week is a
great way for us to recognize their success and encourage
future growth."
During this event, women will have the opportunity to take
part in speed networking, an activity to enable
participants to make a large number of business contacts in
a condensed amount of time. This session will be followed
by a panel presentation called "Fundamentals of Financing,"
and will wrap up with a presentation called "Small Business
Marketing Strategies.""Small Business Week is an ideal time to celebrate the many
women in business throughout our province," said Debbie
Hanlon, NLOWE President. "Activities like the speed
networking session will be a fun way to kick start the week
and to help women in business make connections with
potential partners, customers or clients. The entire
morning will be focussed on providing useful information
and advice in key business areas to help women succeed."
Small Business Week takes place from October 16-22 this
year, and is being held under the theme "YOU'RE THE POWER
behind the Canadian economy, let's share the energy!" ACOA's Women in Business Initiative (WBI) is one of the
tools business owners can use to further expand their
business markets and skills. It provides programs and
services to help improve the growth and competitiveness of
women-owned businesses in Atlantic Canada. The WBI is
delivered in partnership with NLOWE and the Newfoundland
and Labrador Association of Community Business Development
Corporations.NLOWE fosters the success of women in business through a
network of regional facilitators, members, clients and
business partnerships. Their "women helping women" approach
ensures an understanding of the unique challenges and
opportunities facing women entrepreneurs in Newfoundland
and Labrador.
