OTTAWA - Transport Minister Jean-C. Lapierre today announced the appointment
of Mr. Pritam S. Lamba of Thunder Bay, Ontario, to the board of directors of the
Thunder Bay Port Authority.
"I am pleased that Mr. Lamba has agreed to serve on the board of the Thunder
Bay Port Authority," said Mr. Lapierre. "His expertise is a welcome asset to the
board and will serve him well as he takes up his new responsibilities."
Mr. Lamba holds a bachelor of science degree in physics from Delhi University
in India and a bachelor of science degree in mechanical engineering from
Strathclyde University in Glasgow, United Kingdom. He is a member of the
Professional Engineers of Ontario, British Columbia, Manitoba and Alberta.
During his 30-year career at C.D. Howe Company, Mr. Lamba held many positions
including designer, professional engineer, project manager and vice-president.
He currently manages his own consulting company Lamba & Associates Inc. and
serves on the Community Care Access Centre of Thunder Bay's board. Mr. Lamba
also spent six years on the board of governors at Confederation College in
Thunder Bay.
The Thunder Bay Port Authority is the Canada Port Authority (CPA) established
under the Canada Marine Act on July 1, 1999, to manage the Port of Thunder Bay.
As a CPA, the Thunder Bay Port Authority benefits from greater management
flexibility, including increased freedom to develop contracts and borrow money
from commercial lenders.
The Port of Thunder Bay has facilities for handling all types of cargo and is
served by Canadian National and Canadian Pacific Railways, as well as major
Canadian trucking companies. The majority of the port's tonnage is made up of
dry bulk commodities - including grain, coal and potash - with grain tonnage
accounting for two-thirds of the more than 8.6 million tonnes of cargo handled
in 2004.
