Why: Canadian-led NATO mission
Cmdre Rouleau will take responsibility of SNMG 1 during a change of command ceremony in Kiel, Germany on Thursday January 26th, 2006. Over the next year, Cmdre Rouleau and his staff of 21 will head a NATO squadron composed of Canadian, American, German, Polish, Portuguese, Danish and Spanish ships. During this period, Canadian destroyers HMCS Athabaskan and Iroquois will be splitting time as his flagship under Operation SEXTANT. HMCS Athabaskan sailed from Halifax on January 11, and arrived in Kiel on January 23. HMCS Iroquois is scheduled to relieve her in July, 2006.
