Today, a Summary of Comments/Debt Strategy 2006/07 is being published on the Bank's website in conjunction with the release of the government's Debt Management Strategy for 2006/07 on the Department of Finance's website.
In November 2005, officials from the Department of Finance and the Bank of Canada consulted with interested parties on issues relating to the design and operation of the Government of Canada domestic debt programs for fiscal year 2006/07 and beyond. The 2006/07 Debt Strategy Consultations identified a broad spectrum of potential adjustments to the government's bond program in the near and medium terms to support the domestic debt programs in light of lower borrowing requirements and evolving market trends. To provide for comments from a broad range of participants, the 2006/07 Debt Strategy Consultation Document was made available on the Bank of Canada's website in October 2005. Comments received during these consultations were taken into consideration in developing the Debt Management Strategy for 2006/07.
