Governor General to S-K at National Spelling Bee Final

OTTAWA -- Her Excellency the Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean, Governor General of Canada, will deliver a welcoming message during the second annual CanWest CanSpell Spelling Bee National Finals. The event will take place on Wednesday, April 5, 2006, at noon, in the Theatre of the Canadian Museum of Civilization in Gatineau, Quebec.
As patron of the CanWest CanSpell National Spelling Bee, the Governor General is delighted to spend time with the spellers: "I am so pleased that young people like you are striving to master language. Such curiosity is a sign of your openness. You are role models for so many other young people who hope one day to live out their dreams and carve out a place for themselves in the world."
Twenty-eight students from across Canada will challenge themselves and each other to spell some of the most complex words. The top speller will win the National Final Canadian title, an education award, and the CanWest CanSpell Cup to display in his or her hometown for the coming year. The Canadian National Finals will also be available on a live webcast at www.canspell.com .
