OTTAWA, April 24, 2006 -- The Honourable Maxime Bernier, Minister of Industry, today received the report prepared by the Expert Panel on Commercialization. The report was presented to the Minister and made public by the panel earlier today in Ottawa.
"I am very pleased to receive this report, and am looking forward to reviewing the recommendations of the Expert Panel on Commercialization," said Minister Bernier. "The Government of Canada is looking at the options available to encourage more private sector investment, to drive investment in research and development by businesses themselves, and to promote the successful commercialization of Canadian technologies."
The Expert Panel on Commercialization was established on May 18, 2005. Joseph L. Rotman, Germaine Gibara, Mike Lazaridis, Cindy Lum, John C. Risley, and Dr. Indira V. Samarasekera were appointed to the Panel to advise the government on an action plan for meeting its commercialization objectives. The Panel was also asked to make suggestions as to what government, business, and the academic sector can do to improve commercialization in every sector of the economy.
